Pivot To Ignite Success

Pivot to ignite success

Hunter Pence continues to be a San Francisco Giants fan favorite even though he is no longer with the team. His 2018 season with the Giants was less than stellar. I was excited to see an article about Pence’s renewed success with the Texas Rangers given I thought he had retired from major league baseball when he left the Giants.

Here’s an excerpt of an NBCSports.com article Former Giant Hunter Pence Finding Success In Texas With Rebuilt Swing:

Pence actually played winter ball in the Dominican Republic for the first time this offseason to work on the swing changes. He admits it hasn’t been an easy process, but he remains fully committed.

“I had to make a change,” he said. “I had to get better and I had to trust the process. I made the decision. If you’re going to play in this league, you have to contribute and you have to be able to help. I wouldn’t want to be here unless I was able to contribute. I truly felt that this was the best opportunity to do that, to continue to do what I love.”

There’s a great lesson here. Pence realised the status quo wasn’t serving him or his team. He had to make a change.

How many companies fail to look closely at their results and come to the realization that change is necessary? Every “Going Out Of Business” sign signals an inability to adapt to changes the marketplace is signaling.

Hunter Pence is pivoting to stay relevant. Good for him. Is your business in need of a pivot directionally to continue to be relevant?
